The Light Has No Shadow  | 光無影

When you look up at the sky, and beautiful clouds are floating above you, and you love the cloud, suddenly the cloud disappears, and you think the cloud has died, "Where has my lovely cloud gone?" If you have time to look and see, you will see that the cloud has not died or disappeared. The cloud has just turned into raindrops, and when you see the rain, you see the cloud too. When you drink tea with mindfulness, the cloud is in the tea and you say "Hello, cloud, I recognise you; you are not dead. You are alive in a new form."

The Buddhist sutra mention of sentient beings mistaking themselves for waves and becoming attachment, distinguishment and delusion; all sentient beings cannot see their true nature because of their attachment, distinguishment and delusion, which give rise to greed, hatred and ignorance. However, if one looks deeper. One realises that the nature of sentient beings is water and not waves. When one truly realises there is no difference in the nature of all sentient beings. There will be no more sorrow, no more suffering. Because no one ever really leaves.

The mirror-finished Buddha statue is like our true nature, which is pure and sufficient, but is sealed by transparent resin, like the attachment of all sentient beings, which is hard to reconcile but does not know. The three resin layers also represent the three poisons: greed, hatred and ignorance. The last one is the brain wave moving light, which keeps moving, much like the ceaseless delusions of all sentient beings. Only by seeking enlightenment and letting go of attachment, distinguishment and delusions can remove the three poisons of greed, hatred and ignorance. And the mind be enlightened to meet our true nature.

The audience needs to wear a brainwave device that instantly captures every thought in your mind and converts those thoughts into signals, which are then transmitted to two light devices. One light is placed above the audience’s head, and the other is positioned atop a sculpture. When the audience’s mental state becomes more focused and, at the same time, more relaxed (this may sound contradictory, but it’s indeed possible), the swinging motion of the light devices slows down, and at its most extreme, it even comes to a complete stop. The color of the lights also changes, shifting from blue to red, green, and orange, until, at its peak, only pure white light remains. At that moment, there are just two beams of white light quietly lingering between the audience and the sculpture. In this state, when the audience opens their eyes, the ascetic Buddha statue they see is no longer merely a sculpture but a reflection of their own true nature.
